Setup Guide
Install CatalogFix
Install CatalogFix from the Shopify App Store. The app opens embedded inside your Shopify Admin — no separate login required.
Scan Your Catalog
Open CatalogFix from the Apps section in your Shopify Admin. Click "Scan Catalog" and CatalogFix will check every product for missing descriptions, weak SEO, and blank alt text. You'll get a content health score out of 100.
Generate Content
Pick a product — or let CatalogFix suggest your worst one. Click "Generate" and AI will write descriptions, SEO meta titles, meta descriptions, tags, and image alt text using your actual product images.
Review & Edit
Every generated field is shown for review before publishing. You can:
- Edit any field — Click into descriptions, SEO titles, meta descriptions, tags, or alt text to change them
- Uncheck fields — Don't want to update a particular field? Uncheck it
- Regenerate — Not happy with the result? Click "Regenerate" for a new version
Publish
Click "Publish" to write the content to your Shopify product. CatalogFix saves a snapshot of the original content first, so you can revert with one click at any time.
Upgrade (Optional)
Free previews are unlimited. When you're ready to publish, start a 7-day free trial of the Starter plan ($29/month, 50 products) or Growth plan ($79/month, 300 products).
Tips
- Start with your worst products — CatalogFix highlights products with the most missing content so you get the biggest improvement first
- Set your brand voice — Choose a writing tone (Professional, Casual, Luxurious, Playful, or Technical) for consistent content across your catalog
- Use bulk generation — Select multiple products and generate content for all of them at once to save time
- Review alt text carefully — AI vision is good but not perfect. Check that each image description matches what's shown
Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
What does CatalogFix do?
CatalogFix scans your Shopify catalog for missing or weak product content — descriptions, SEO meta, tags, and image alt text — then uses AI to generate high-quality replacements. You review, edit, and publish to Shopify in one click.
Does CatalogFix modify my store without my permission?
No. CatalogFix never publishes anything without your explicit approval. Every generated field is shown for review first. You choose exactly which fields to update, and you click "Publish" to apply them.
Does it work with any Shopify theme?
Yes. CatalogFix writes directly to your product data through the Shopify API. It works with Dawn, Horizon, Debut, and any other theme — the content appears wherever your theme displays product information.
Content Generation
Is the generated content unique?
Yes. Every description, meta title, and alt text is generated fresh for your specific product using Claude AI. No templates, no content spinning. Each product gets unique content based on its title, images, and existing data.
How does image alt text generation work?
Your product images are sent to Claude's vision AI, which describes what it actually sees in each photo. This produces accurate, descriptive alt text based on the image content — not just the product title repeated.
Can I set my brand's writing style?
Yes. CatalogFix supports five brand voice tones: Professional, Casual, Luxurious, Playful, and Technical. Set it once and every product description will match your brand's personality.
What if I don't like the generated content?
Click "Regenerate" to get a completely new version. You can also edit any field directly before publishing. And if you publish something you don't like, revert to the original with one click.
Publishing
Can I revert changes after publishing?
Yes. CatalogFix saves a snapshot of your original product content before every publish. Click "Revert" at any time to restore the original content. You're always in control.
Can I publish some fields but not others?
Yes. Before publishing, you can uncheck any field you don't want to update. For example, you might only want to publish the SEO meta and tags, but keep your existing description.
Does publishing affect my store speed?
No. CatalogFix writes content through the Shopify API — the same way you'd edit a product manually. Nothing is added to your storefront and there's no impact on page speed.
Plans and Billing
What's included for free?
Free accounts get unlimited content previews and a full catalog health scan. You can generate content for any product and see the results — you just need a paid plan to publish content to Shopify.
What's the difference between Starter and Growth?
Starter ($29/month) lets you publish content for up to 50 products per month. Growth ($79/month) lets you publish up to 300 products per month and includes brand voice customization and priority generation.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Both the Starter and Growth plans include a 7-day free trial. You can publish content immediately and only get charged after the trial ends.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your plan at any time from the Settings page or from your Shopify Admin under Settings > Billing. Your existing product content stays — it's already published to Shopify.
Privacy and Data
What data does CatalogFix access?
CatalogFix reads your product data (titles, descriptions, SEO fields, tags, images) through the Shopify API. We do not access customer data, order data, or financial information. See our full privacy policy for details.
Are my product images sent to a third party?
Yes. Product images are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for alt text generation. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models. No other third party receives your data.
What happens to my data if I uninstall?
When you uninstall CatalogFix, all generated content, versions, scan results, and session data are deleted from our servers. Your published Shopify product content is not affected.
Troubleshooting
Generation is taking a long time
Content generation typically takes 10-30 seconds per product, depending on the number of images. If you're generating content for multiple products in bulk, each one is processed sequentially. If generation seems stuck for more than 2 minutes, try refreshing the page and generating again.
The generated content doesn't match my product
AI content generation works best when your product has a clear title and at least one good product image. If the title is very generic (e.g., "Product 1"), the AI has less context to work with. Try editing the title to be more descriptive, then regenerate.
I can't see my products in CatalogFix
Make sure your products are published (not in draft status) in your Shopify Admin. CatalogFix only shows active products that are visible to your store.
